Area basketball tournament brackets set

Regular-season area contests are now over. Coin flips have been made where needed, and brackets have been filled in for the upcoming area basketball tournaments.

Girls tournaments across the state are scheduled for Feb. 4, 7 and 9, while the boys area tournaments are set for Feb. 5, 8 and 11. Admission is $6.

The following is a brief look at who’s playing who and where in our area.

Class 1A, Area 10 Girls

The Spring Garden Lady Panthers host the Class 1A, Area 10 girls tournament. Spring Garden won’t play until next Thursday at 5:30 p.m., where they’ll face the winner of Monday’s 4-5 game between Gaylesville and Coosa Christian. The Gaylesville-Coosa Christian game is set for 5:30 p.m. at Spring Garden.

In the other area tournament semifinal, No. 2 Collinsville battles No. 3 Cedar Bluff next Thursday at 7 p.m.

The area tournament championship is set for next Saturday at 7 p.m. in Spring Garden.

Class 1A, Area 10 Boys

Collinsville earned the right to host the Class 1A, Area 10 boys tournament. The Panthers won’t play until next Friday at 5:30 p.m. against the winner of No. 4 Coosa Christian and No. 5 Gaylesville. The Coosa Christian-Gaylesville game is set for 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Collinsville.

The other area tournament semifinal pits No. 2 Cedar Bluff against No. 3 Spring Garden. That game is set to tip at 7 p.m. next Friday in Collinsville.

The area tournament championship is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Feb. 11.

Class 2A, Area 11 Girls

The Sand Rock Lady Wildcats are the hosts for the Class 2A, Area 11 girls tournament. They open the tournament next Thursday against No. 4 Westbrook Christian at 5 p.m.

The other area tournament semifinal features West End against Gaston next Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

The area tournament championship will be next Saturday at 3 p.m. at Sand Rock.

Class 2A, Area 11 Boys

Westbrook Christian earned the right to host the Class 2A, Area 11 boys tournament. The Warriors face West End next Friday at 7:30 p.m.

The Sand Rock Wildcats battle Gaston in the other tournament semifinal in Rainbow City next Friday at 6 p.m.

The area tournament championship is scheduled for 7 p.m. on Feb. 11.

Class 3A, Area 10 Girls

The Piedmont Lady Bulldogs are the top seed in the Class 3A, Area 10 girls tournament. They’ll open tournament play next Thursday against No. 4 Weaver at 6 p.m.

Second-seeded White Plains faces No. 3 Saks in the other tournament semifinal next Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

The area tournament championship is set for next Saturday in Piedmont at 7 p.m.

Class 3A, Area 10 Boys

The Saks Wildcats claimed the top seed in the Class 3A, Area 10 boys tournament. They’ll host No. 4 Piedmont next Friday at 6 p.m.

The other tournament semifinal features No. 2 White Plains against No. 3 Weaver next Friday at 7:30 p.m.

The area tournament championship will be Feb. 11 at 7 p.m.

Class 4A, Area 11 Girls

By virtue of a coin flip, the Cherokee County Lady Warriors earned the right to host the Class 4A, Area 11 girls tournament. The Lady Warriors open tournament play against No. 4 Alexandria next Thursday at 7:30 p.m.

Second-seeded and defending state champion Jacksonville battles No. 3 Hokes Bluff in the other tournament semifinal next Thursday at 6 p.m.

The area tournament championship is scheduled for next Saturday at 5 p.m. in Centre.

Class 4A, Area 11 Boys

The Hokes Bluff Eagles will host the Class 4A, Area 11 boys tournament. The Eagles play No. 4 Cherokee County next Friday at 6 p.m.

The other tournament semifinal features No. 3 Alexandria against No. 2 Jacksonville next Friday at 7:30 p.m.

The area tournament championship is set for Feb. 11 in Hokes Bluff at 7 p.m.
