The coalition will conduct a workshop Aug. 22 in Montgomery that will include information and demonstrations of alternative fuels such as biodiesel, compressed natural gas and propane. Tips to improve fuel economy in vehicles fuel by traditional gasoline or diesel also will be presented.
“Alternative fuels have the potential to lower energy costs and reduce dependence on foreign oil,” Bentley said. “This workshop is an opportunity for Alabamians to become better informed about the various fuels available.”
The workshop at the Alabama Department of Agriculture and Industries will feature speakers from the National Renewable Energy Laboratory, the Clean Fuels Coalition and the Alabama Department of Economic and Community Affairs.
While the event is open to everyone, the coalition encourages fuel producers, distributors and retailers, policy makers and fleet managers to attend.
The Clean Fuels Coalition coordinates alternative-fuel vehicle activities in Alabama as part of the U.S. Department of Energy’s Clean Cities program.
ADECA is administering the grant from funds made available by the U.S. Department of Energy. ADECA administers an array of programs that support law enforcement and traffic safety, economic development, energy conservation, workforce development, water resource management and recreation development.
Bentley informed Phillip Wiedmeyer, president and CEO of the coalition, that the grant had been approved. Matching funds of $2,500 will supplement the grant.
