The Cherokee County Board of Education is searching for a new principal at Centre Elementary School. During its Tuesday, Oct. 2 meeting, the board named Dewayne Pierce, who currently serves as principal at CES as the new supervisor of testing and curriculum, 21st Century Coordinator.

The board named Kelly Hopper, a fourth grade teacher at Centre Elementary School, as assistant principal and agreed to post both the principal position at CES and the fourth grade teacher position at CES.

The board approved the retirement of Carol Davis Scott, a Centre Elementary School resource teacher, who is retiring after 36 years of service with the Cherokee County School System. Her retirement becomes effective Dec. 1.

“I know that she (Scott) has a true love for children,” said Brian Johnson, superintendent, Cherokee County Schools. “I have seen it on a daily basis. I know someone will take her position but no one will ever take her place. We just want to wish her the best in her retirement.”

In other personnel action, the board:

-Approved the resignation of Amy Frampton as special education paraprofessional/bus aide.

-Approved postings for a special education paraprofessional/bus aide-county wide and a Title I instructional aide at Gaylesville School.

-Approved a $6,000 supplement for Thomas Curry to be funded by the Cherokee County High School Quarterback Club.

-Approved supplement changes including removing Brett Keasler from receiving Gaylesville’s $1,200 technology supplement and replacing with Tisha Cox, removing Lacie Keith from receiving Gaylesville’s varsity cheerleader supplement of $1,600 and replacing with April McClung (Lacie Keith and April McClung have the same years of coaching experience) and removing April McClung from receiving Gaylesville’s jr. high cheerleader supplement of $900 and replacing with Lacie Keith.

In other business, the board:

-Received financial report for August.

-Approved School Advisory Councils and District Advisory Council guidelines.

-Approved agreement for central office postage meter with Pitney Bowes.

-Approved agreement for Cherokee County School with Coca-Cola Refreshments USA, Inc.

-Approved bills for payment.

The next meeting of the Cherokee County Board of Education is scheduled for Tuesday, Oct. 16, beginning at 6 p.m., at the central office.
