The Centre Water Works and Sewer Board has received $500,000 in CDBG (Community Development Block Grant) funds for sewer repairs in the city limits.

Roy Alford, manager, Centre Waterworks and Sewer Board, said the grant will be used to rehab sewer lines on Northwood Drive around Cherokee Medical Center, Cherokee Manor and replacement of the pump station which serves that area. The project also includes A Street, Louise Street and replacing the pump station in that area also.

According to Alford, Centre Waterworks and Sewer Board will provide as matching funds $20,000 in cash and $20,000 in in-kind work.

“We actually put in for this grant last year,” said Alford. “We were told we were next on the list so we missed it by one last year. We’re glad we made it this year.”
