Four people, including two Centre residents, were injured when a small jet crashed at an Atlanta-area airport Monday, June 18. The incident occurred around 10 a.m. The plane had apparently left Gadsden and crashed through a fence after running off the runway at Peachtree-Dekalb Airport around 10 a.m.

The pilots, according to reports, were identified as Phil McClendon and his brother who were transported to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. Jay Machleit and Daniel Johnson, both of Centre, were also aboard the jet. They were treated at an area hospital for what were believed to be minor injuries.

According to a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) official, the Hawker Beechcraft 400A was registered to N79TE LLC in Centre.

A fuel spill resulted from the crash, according to reports, but the four people on board were out of the plane by the time emergency crews arrived.

An FFA report should be released in approximately five days, reports said.
