Gaylesville blanks Skyline, 32-0

GAYLESVILLE – Luke Murphy completed 7 of 15 passes for 163 yards and a touchdown and added 37 yards on six carries with a score to lead the Gaylesville Trojans to a 32-0 win over Skyline Friday.

Murphy scored the first touchdown for the Trojans (2-2, 2-1) on a 37-yard run on Gaylesville’s first offensive play of the night. He later connected with Paul VanPelt on a 71-yard touchdown pass to open the second half.

VanPelt led the Trojan receivers with three catches for 121 yards and a touchdown.

David Sanford rushed for 62 yards on 20 carries with two touchdowns. Josh Whitaker had 43 yards and a score on just two carries. His touchdown came on a 30-yard run in the fourth quarter. Whitaker also had a reception for 20 yards.

Gaylesville’s defense also had a big night, as it forced three turnovers in its second consecutive shutout. Murphy led the Trojans with 12 tackles, including four for losses. John Jennings had 11 tackles and a fumble recovery. VanPelt finished with nine tackles, including two sacks. Brian Sanford had eight tackles and a fumble recovery.

Levi Morgan posted six tackles and had an interception. Michael Zuber also had six tackles and a fumble recovery.

Gaylesville hosts Parkway Christian on Friday.
