Jennings has another big night, leads Gaylesville to second straight win

GAYLESVILLE – Gaylesville senior tailback John David Jennings rushed for 206 yards on 18 carries and scored three touchdowns to lead the Trojans to a 40-13 victory over Class 1A, Region 7 rival Jacksonville Christian on Friday.

The Trojans (2-4, 2-3) jumped out to a 21-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and led 40-6 at halftime. The Thunder (1-5, 1-5) scored a touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

Junior running back Dylan Mitchell added 79 yards on 10 carries with a touchdown. Junior quarterback Cole Murphy accounted for the Trojans’ other two scores – one of which came on a 70-yard interception return. He was also 4 of 6 on extra points.

Logan Hurley led the Trojan defense with six tackles. Gable Lawson, Dylan Cavin and Corey Thomas each had a sack. Dylan Evans recovered a fumble.

Gaylesville travels to Woodville on Friday. Jacksonville Christian hosts Valley Head.
