According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, on July 7, 2012, a Leesburg resident reported tires and wheels were stolen from his residence by suspects who fled in a Chevy S-10 pick-up truck, and a BOLO (be on the look-out) was issued. A short time later, Lt. Jimmy Deberry spotted the suspects in Centre and stopped the vehicle, which was occupied by two juveniles.
The stolen property and two Molotov cocktails (explosives) were found in the truck, Shaver said. Further investigation revealed a third juvenile was also involved in the making of the explosives.
The first two juveniles are charged with theft of property, and all three are charged with possession/manufacturing of a destructive device. They were transported to the Coosa Valley Youth Detention Center, Shaver said.
Cherokee County Fire Investigator Shawn Rogers, Deputy State Fire Marshal Ray Cumby, and Centre Police Department were also involved in the investigation.
