MONTGOMERY – The North All-Stars scored an early first-half goal and added two second-half goals en route to a 3-1 win over the South in the North-South Boys All-Star soccer match at the Emory Folmar Soccer Complex on Tuesday night.

Athens’ Christopher Gregory scored two goals to claim Most Valuable Player honors for the North, which also featured Collinsville midfielder Jorge Segura on its roster.

Daphne’s Levi Ehmka scored his team’s only goal to take home South MVP laurels.

Both of Gregory’s goals came off corner kicks. His first came in the 6th minute off a corner feed from Hewitt-Trussville’s Luke Reeves. Gregory second goal gave the North a 2-0 in the 46th minute.

Vestavia’s Sam Irvin made it 3-0 in the 72nd minute on a shot from the right side of the penalty box. Ehmka’s goal closed the scoring on the night in the 76th minute to cut the North lead to 3-1.

Marvin Castellanos of Vestavia Hills had two saves in goal for the North. Daphne’s Will Carpenter also had three saves and Benjamin’s Blake Chappell had four for the South.

The North held a 17-6 advantage in shots and a 10-3 in shots on goal while improving its lead in the series to 7-4-1.

In the girls’ match, Briarwood Christian’s Sara Smeltzer and Spain Park’s Simone Charley scored three goals apiece to lead the North All-Stars to a 6-0 win over the South.

The North now leads the all-time series 9-2-1. The match was the first played in the new showcase stadium at the Folmar Complex.

Smeltzer, who earned most valuable player honors, also assisted on the game’s first goal, feeding Charley’s first goal in the 18th minute. South goalkeeper Johannah Scott of Spanish Fort was named the South MVP. She registered eight saves.

Charley’s second goal opened the second half and gave the North a 2-0 lead in the 47thminute. Vestavia Hills’ Juliana Ross assisted on the goal. Smeltzer added an unassisted goal in the 52nd minute and her second in the 63rd minute on an assist from Jacksonville’s Sharon Osterbind to give the North a 4-0 lead.

Charley scored an unassisted goal in the 68th minute, and Smeltzer added the final goal of the night in the 71st minute off a feed from Randolph’s Emily Knowling.

Pell City’s Cate Eden started in goal for the North recording two saves on the evening.

The North squad held a 25-2 advantage in overall shots and 15-2 in shots on goal.
