Piedmont girls claim Cherokee Medical Center Thanksgiving Tournament championship

CENTRE - Piedmont senior center BreAnna Thompson scored a game-high 19 points to lead the Lady Bulldogs to a 46-27 victory over Hokes Bluff Friday in the championship game of the Cherokee Medical Center Thanksgiving Tournament in Centre.

Thompson claimed the tournament's Most Valuable Player. She was joined on the all-tournament team by teammate Sarah Garner, who finished with nine points. Tatinya Green netted 11 points and Brittany Holloway finished with seven points for Piedmont (3-0).

Carlie Shields led Hokes Bluff with 11 points. Hannah Evans added six points and Katy Alford finished with five points. Shields and Evans represented the Lady Eagles on the all-tournament team.

Piedmont held a 7-0 lead at the end of the first quarter and held a 23-7 advantage at halftime. The Lady Bulldogs led 36-25 after three quarters.

Section 69, Pinson Valley 52

CENTRE - Hannah Presley tossed in 26 points, helping the Section Lady Lions finish third in the Cherokee Medical Center Thanksgiving Tournament Friday in Centre with a 69-52 victory over Pinson Valley.

Reagan Kipp added 15 points for the Lady Lions. Autumn Hicks and Kaylea McAlister both contributed 10 points. Presley and McAlister were all-tournament selections.

Alex Lowery led Pinson Valley with 21 points. Karianna McAdoo added 11 points. Jameshia Moore, Maralie and Destini McKinney all finished with six points.

Lowery and Destini McKinney were all-tournament selections.

Section jumped out to a 22-8 lead at the end of the first quarter and held a 35-24 advantage at halftime. The Lady Lions led 54-32 at the end of three quarters.

Saks 57, Gaston 53 (OT)

CENTRE - Gaston's Abby Elrod connected on a pair of free throws with no time left in regulation to tie Saks at 46, but the Lady Bulldogs couldn't capture the win in overtime, falling 57-53 in the Cherokee Medical Center Thanksgiving Tournament Friday in Centre.

Elrod finished with a game-high 19 points. She was selected to the all-tournament team. Kentara Blackwell added 15 points and Kierra Porter finished with 13 points.

Justice Whatley led Saks with 15 points. Taylor West added 13 points and Jordan Briskey tallied 11 points. Briskey represented Saks on the all-tournament team.

Kristan Goodman and Alliyah Taylor finished with nine and five points for the Lady Wildcats.

Gaston led 17-13 at the end of the first quarter, but Saks pulled ahead at the half 26-20. Saks maintained a 38-34 advantage heading into the fourth quarter.

Alexandria 57, Etowah 54

CENTRE - Carly Edwards scored a game-high 25 points as the Alexandria Lady Cubs rallied for a 57-54 victory over Etowah in the Cherokee Medical Center Thanksgiving Tournament Friday in Centre.

Edwards represented the Lady Cubs on the all-tournament team. Erin Farlow added 14 points. Amanda Young tallied eight points and Timberlyn Shurbutt finished with five points.

Brooke Perry led Etowah with 18 points. Haley Hyde added 12 points. Neah Meeks and Amber Jones both contributed eight points. Kaelin Trammell finished with six points.

Alexandria trailed 18-11 after the first quarter, 31-24 at halftime and 51-39 at the end of three quarters. The Lady Cubs went on an 18-3 run in the fourth quarter for the final.
