Plainview holds on against Sand Rock, 14-7

SAND ROCK – The Sand Rock Wildcats and Plainview Bears found themselves locked in a defensive battle Friday, but Plainview was able to hold on to a 14-7 victory at Russell Jacoway Stadium.

The Bears (4-1) scored the game’s first touchdown with just 29 seconds remaining in the first quarter. Senior running back Cole Porter scampered 29 yards into the end zone. Fernando Limon’s extra point gave Plainview a 7-0 lead.

Porter finished the game with 44 yards on 10 carries.

It remained 7-0 Bears until the fourth quarter. Sand Rock (3-2) tied the game at 7 on junior running back Dustin Chambers’ 4-yard touchdown run with 9:54 remaining in the game. Ethan Jimmerson booted the extra point.

Chambers led the Wildcat rushing attack with 41 yards on 11 carries. Sand Rock junior quarterback completed 9 of 22 passes for 87 yards with an interception.

Plainview regained the lead with 5:43 left in the fourth quarter on an 8-yard run by junior running back Caleb Spears. Limon added the PAT for the final.

Spears tallied 38 yards on six carries. Sophomore running back Cody Willingham led the Bears’ ground game with 69 yards on 12 carries. Sophomore quarterback Jayse Pruitt completed 5 of 14 passes for 118 yards.

Sand Rock gets back into Class 2A, Region 7 action on Friday with a trip to third-ranked Fyffe. Plainview returns home to face Brindlee Mountain in a Class 3A, Region 6 battle.
