The Sand Rock Town Council met recently in the town hall. Mayor Bill Glenn and all the council members were on hand for their regular monthly meeting. Mayor Glenn called the meeting to order and prayer was led by Councilman Bud Mackey to open the business meeting.

Mayor Glenn welcomed the entire group of guests to the meeting and allowed those that had business with the council to go first. Lacy Fowler with the Sand Rock Volunteer Fire Department came and gave the report for the month of July. There were 10 calls and 64 man hours worked by the department for the month of July.

Beth Farmer, the Cherokee County executive director for the Farm Service Agency. was on hand to discuss usage of the towns parking areas, and park during Farm City Days coming up Oct. 8 and 9.

There was some discussion about liability insurance during the two days, and then the council approved the request for usage during Farm City Days.

Shaunathan Bell, candidate for circuit judge, requested the use of the town hall for a meet and greet for the citizens of the area.

The council approved his request at the regular fee for non-citizens of Sand Rock which is $100, and the dates were discussed.

Mike Davis and Julie Ballenger, concerned citizens. came to the council to ask for help concerning fire ants in the town park, and traffic issues on the road leading to the livestock pavilion.

The council approved the purchase of fire ant poison, and will get with Cory Chambers the County Engineer about signs and speed bumps for the road.

The council approved a motion to put a sign on the storage room door asking users to return the tables to the storage room after use.

The minutes of the last meeting and the budget were approved. In Old Business, the doors have been replaced and painted.

The council approved the cost to replace the doors and for the paint.

In other old business the town now owns the Jenkins property, and will start the upkeep on the property.

In new business, additional grass cutting and weed control will be added to the present contract.

The council approved a request from the Athletic Booster Club to allow them to collect parking fees on the city parking lot during the football season to fund non-revenue producing sports at the school.

The Sand Rock Town Council approved the certification of the candidates for mayor and council.

Since they had no opposition, these candidates will be sworn in on November the 5th, 2012 at the town hall.

The following candidates were certified: James R. Mackey Mayor, Place one-Julia Smith, Place two-Greg Oliver, Place three-Gene Farmer, Place four-George Mackey, and Place five-Steve McMeekin. Because of no opposition no election was required.

Mayor Glenn told the council how much he appreciated them for the cooperation and hard work that they have done for the town since he has been mayor. With no further business the meeting was adjourned.
