The North now holds a slim 15-10-1 lead in the series, which began in 1997.
Cedar Bluff’s Levi Mintz tossed two innings in the second game. He gave up a walk and two earned runs off five hits with two strikeouts. Mintz batted twice in the first game. He walked once and struck out.
In the opener, Shoals Christian’s Will Bishop singled to right field in top of the seventh, scoring Josh Close of Spain Park and Daniel Robert of Briarwood, to give the North a 6-5 lead going into the bottom of the inning.
G.W. Long’s Trey Walding, who was named the South Most Valuable player, doubled to right field to plate UMS-Wright’s T.J. Dixon to tie the game 6-6. The contest ended after the seven regulation innings.
Hayden Lott had a pair of hits with a stolen base and a RBI to lead the South. Dixon, Walding and Alex Pescott of Brantley each had a hit and a RBI. Elmore County’s Tyler Black also had a single.
For the North, Bishop drove in a pair of runs to go along with two hits while Hoover’s Michael Powers and Close had two hits and a RBI.
American Christian’s Addison Moore started on the mound for the North, striking out two while not allowing a hit in two scoreless innings.
Cameron Cummings worked three innings with six strikeouts and allowed three runs on three hits while Kevin Davis recorded five strikeouts in two innings of work for the South.
In the nightcap, the South struck quickly with two runs in the first and piled on eight more in the second to build a 10-0 lead.
Baker’s Casey Hughston drew a bases loaded walk and Chilton County’s Cameron Cummings scored when Brandon Davis reached on a fielder’s choice in the opening frame.
Walding, who drove in three runs on a pair of hits, had a two-run single and St. Luke’s Dalton Becker an RBI single to highlight the South’s eight-run second.
T.R. Miller’s Kevin Davis and Baker’s Matt Holderfield added two hits and two RBI apiece for the South. Lott had two hits, including a double and two runs scored, and Becker an RBI single.
Marcus Morrisette had two strikeouts in two scoreless innings of work to get the win for the South. Zach Cunningham was the pitcher of record for the North in game two while Will Bishop had three strikeouts.
Glenn Irby was named the North MVP, going 2 for 3 with a RBI in two games.
