Veteran Educator Mark Green loves Cherokee County and the Cherokee County School System. But he feels there is room for improvement and that is why he is running as a Republican Candidate for Cherokee County Board of Education Place Four.

Green sought local votes during a recent political rally held at the Spring Creek Fire Department.

“For 36 and a half years I have worked in the school system in Cherokee county as a teacher for several years as assistant principal four year and then as an elementary counselor for 18 and a half years,” said Green.

“In all those years I have tried to put the children first. In all my decisions, everything I did in the classroom, I tried to do it for them. And I want to continue doing that as a member of your board of education.

“If I didn’t love the children, if I didn’t love the school system, then I wouldn’t be doing this.”

“Several people have asked me ‘Mark you have been retired for four years. Why are you wanting to do this?’” said Green.

“Why? Because I love the children and I feel there are some things we can do to make our system better.

“We have a good school system and I love public education. I am all for it and I think there are some improvements we can make. I would like to be a part of that. And I would like to ask you to consider me as your candidate, your choice for Cherokee County Board of Education Place Four. I will be looking for your vote and support Nov. 6.”

Incumbent Dewandee Neyman, who is running as a Democratic candidate for re-election to Cherokee County Board of Education Place Four, was unable to attend the Spring Creek Rally but Johnny Roberts read a letter from Mrs. Neyman seeking local votes.

“Dewandee King Neyman is seeking election to Cherokee county Board of Education,” the letter read.

“Mrs. Neyman has lived and voted in Cherokee county her entire life. Mrs. Neyman is a graduate of Cherokee county Schools, a 31-year veteran educator with the Cherokee County School System. She still maintains a valid teaching certificate. As a board of education member, she will support academics, arts, sports and vocational education. She voted to keep the vocational school open.”

“Education has been her life and she is asking for your vote and support Nov. 6 for Cherokee county Board of Education Place 4,” read the letter.

Linda Archer, a native of Virginia who has worked as a traveling nurse for the past several years is running as a Republican candidate for Cherokee County Board of Education Place Three.

“My ethics and being honest are certainly primary in my mind,” said Archer.

“We want to be conservative with finances. I have worked hard all my life, paid a lot of taxes and I certainly want to be a watch dog for your taxes. And I think also, the board of education is a business. I have dealt with a lot of cultures. I feel like I have some expertise in dealing with people. I feel like I would add to the board of education slate.”

“I really think I could do a good job,” said Archer.

“I would like to make a difference. I know from reading papers and I know there have been problems with governments and school boards all over the place. I really feel honored to run with this group of conservative candidates. I have gotten to know them all.”

Suzanne Bishop is running as a Democratic candidate for Cherokee County Board of Education Place Three.

“Running for board of education is something that has been on my mind for several years,” said Bishop.

“I kind of kept it to myself because I didn’t want to do this, I didn’t want to have to campaign. As you can tell, I am not a public speaker, but after a little nudging from a good friend, a little thought, a lot of prayer, I decided that our children’s education is more important.

“I am very concerned about our children’s education, I am very concerned about their future. I am aware of the challenges facing the board of education right now,” said Bishop. “I know this is not going to be an easy job but we all know it is time for some changes.”

“I know that we can have more teachers, everything we need in the classroom for our teachers if we put the children first and I don’t believe we have been doing that,” said Bishop.

“And I think it is time. I want you to know that if I am elected I will be spending time at all the schools, I will be talking to the teachers, support personnel, parents, students and I will consider their input very valuable. I want you to know also that the bests interests of the children will always be my top priority. I want to be an advocate for the children and I am asking you to give me that opportunity,” said Bishop.

“I am asking you to think about the children, and vote for me Nov. 6.”
