Spring Garden doubles up on Jacksonville Christian

SPRING GARDEN – Spring Garden running backs Tyler Morgan and Forrest Livingston both posted over 100 yards rushing, helping the Panthers remain unbeaten Friday with a 42-21 victory over Jacksonville Christian on homecoming.

Morgan finished with 134 yards and three touchdowns while Livingston gained 102 yards and scored one touchdown for the Panthers (5-0, 4-0 Class 1A, Region 7).

Morgan got the Panthers going with 8:27 remaining in the first quarter on a 4-yard touchdown run. The extra point gave Spring Garden a 7-0 lead.

Will Ivey accounted for the Panthers’ next score with a 17-yard fumble return for a touchdown, giving Spring Garden a 14-0 advantage with 2:31 left in the first quarter.

Morgan capped the opening-quarter scoring with a 12-yard touchdown run at the 1:50 mark. The extra point put Spring Garden ahead 21-0.

The Thunder (1-4, 1-4) got on the scoreboard with 6:44 left in the second quarter. Quarterback Daylon Brackett scored on a 1-yard run. The extra point was missed, keeping the score at 21-6.

The Panthers responded on their next possession, as Ivey hooked up with tight end Jake Grogan on a 30-yard touchdown pass. The extra point gave Spring Garden a 28-6 lead with 3:45 left before halftime.

Ivey finished with 53 yards passing with a touchdown and an interception.

The Panthers tacked on one more first-half score on Livingston’s 37-yard run. The PAT increased the Panther lead to 35-6.

After a scoreless third quarter, Jacksonville Christian opened the fourth with Brackett’s 40-yard touchdown run. The Thunder was successful on the 2-point conversion, trimming Spring Garden’s lead to 35-14 with 11:40 left in the game.

Morgan scored Spring Garden’s final touchdown on a 42-yard run at the 10:24 mark of the fourth quarter. The extra point increased the Panther lead to 42-14.

Jacksonville Christian running back Joshua Blohm capped the scoring on a 9-yard touchdown run with 3:02 remaining in the game.

Spring Garden hosts Woodville on Friday. Jacksonville Christian travels to Gaylesville.
