Three county athletes were named to the Alabama High School Athletic Association weekly prep football spotlight.

Gaylesville senior halfback Jerry Stancil recorded the second highest one-game rushing total in state history (470 yards) and scored seven touchdowns in the Trojans’ 48-28 victory over Spring Garden.

CCHS senior halfback Jeffrey Wood rushed 25 times for 262 yards and three touchdowns in the Warriors’ 33-15 victory over Crossville.

Cedar Bluff junior halfback Jeremy Bryant rushed 10 times for 239 yards and four touchdowns in the Tigers’ 60-13 triumph over Collinsville.



Stancil logged 23 carries and scored on touchdown runs of 50, 89, 65, 60, 25, five and five yards The record of 531 yards was set by Tony Dixon of Parrish in 2003.

Stancil’s seven touchdowns was one under the state mark.

Defensively, Stancil recorded 13 tackles and a sack from his linebacker position
