Waste Management and Three Corners Landfill, 2205 County Road 6, Piedmont, Ala. 35972, offers a free dump day the first Saturday of each month for all Cherokee County residents from 8 a.m. until noon. They must provide proof with current statement or water bill. For contact information, call 256-447-9274.

The Cherokee County Public Library has on ongoing book sale. Get paperbacks for as little as a dime and hardbacks for as little as 50 cents or $1. The library is open today from 8 a.m. until noon. Call the library at 256-927-5838 for further information.

The Cherokee County Annual Christmas Parade, sponsored by The Spirit of Cherokee, Inc., begins Saturday, Dec. 1, at 10 a.m. The parade will feature more than 100 entires of floats, cars, beauty queens, schools, churches, businesses, communities, antique tractors, horses, fire trucks, police and rescue squad, and SANTA! Lineup for the parade begins at 9 a.m.

Cedar Bluff Lighting in the Park will be held from 4 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Twentieth Century Club.

In high school basketball action, Jacksonville plays at Spring Garden beginning at 2 p.m. and Collinsville plays at Hokes Bluff beginning at 6 p.m.

Sunday, Dec. 2

The Edge, a contemporary worship service that welcomes each person as he or she is and challenges us all to grow together in our faith in Jesus Christ, meets at 8:45 a.m. at Centre First United Methodist Church.

Funtime Skating Rink is open the first Sunday of each month from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. for church members of all denominations. Only Christian music will be played.

The Women’s Club of Weiss Lake’s 26th Annual Tour of Homes is set for this Sunday, Dec. 2, from 1 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tickets are $5 each, and can be purchased at any of the homes on the tour beginning at 1 p.m. on Dec. 2. For more information call 256-779-2252.

Pine Grove Baptist Church presents “From the Christ Child to the Judgement Saturday, Dec. 1st, at 2:30 p.m. or 6:30 p.m., and Sunday, December 2nd, at 2:30 p.m. or 6:30 p.m. Doors open one hour before each performance and all seats are first come, first serve. Admission is free. Please tell all your friends and family about “Christchild to the Judgment.” All seating is on a first come, first serve basis. Because of the seriousness of some scenes, child care will be provided for children under age 7.

Catholic Mass is held the first and third Sundays at 5 p.m. in the Knowledge Tree Day Care Center.
