One of the Cherokee County Country Club’s premier events, the Dub Ellis Invitational, is set for this weekend in Centre. The tournament routinely attracts top regional golfers in the Southeast. Among the over 60 entries scheduled to compete are defending champion Jeremy McGatha, Heath Jones, Matt Rogers and Frank Brady. For more information on this year’s tournament, contact Steve Baker at the Cherokee County Country Club at 256-927-5070.

Spring Creek Fire Department will have a Door to Door Donation Drive to update equipment during the month of July. Firefighters will wear ID Badge and will drive the fire truck for this campaign. All donations are tax deductible.

The Cherokee County Public Library has on ongoing book sale. Get paperbacks for as little as a dime and hardbacks for as little as 50 cents or $1. The library is open today from 8 a.m. until noon. Call the library at 256-927-5838 for further information.

The National Park Service will hold a Nature Walk at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 21, 2012. We will meet at the Check Station on Cherokee County Road 103 near Alabama Highway 35. The nature walk will be about a mile and a half. Bring clothing to get in the water and a picnic lunch for after the program if you wish. This program is one of the park’s “Let’s Move” and “America’s Great Outdoors” events in partnership with Fresh Air Family. Fresh Air Family is an Alabama based non-profit that brings together individuals and families of all kinds to explore nature in the most beautiful places in our state. Everyone is welcome to attend without joining anything. Families are encouraged to join us for this program. For more information call the park office at (256)845-9605. Sand Rock Church of Christ is having Vacation Bible School from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Registration begins at 8:30 a.m. Lunch will be served. All ages are welcome to attend.

The Centre First Baptist Church contemporary worship service, “Impact” begins at 8:30 a.m.

The Edge, a contemporary worship service that welcomes each person as he or she is and challenges us all to grow together in our faith in Jesus Christ, meets at 8:45 a.m. at Centre First United Methodist Church.

Daniel Chapel Methodist Church, located approximately nine miles North of Leesburg on Highway 273, is having a singing Sunday, July 22, beginning at 6 p.m. Special singers will be The Circle. Everyone is invited to attend.

National Park Ranger Maria Cordova and Rose Ollis will present Fred the Fish, a children’s program at 2 PM, Sunday July 22, 2012. Meet at the Canyon Mouth Picnic Area building at 1200 County Road 275, Cedar Bluff, AL 35959. The program will last about half an hour. Join Fred the Fish on an adventure downstream from Little River. Although the programs are free, the $3 per car fee at the gate still applies upon entering. Catholic Mass is held the first and third Sundays at 5 p.m. at Knowledge Tree Day Care in Centre.
