The Cherokee County Public Library has on ongoing book sale. Get paperbacks for as little as a dime and hardbacks for as little as 50 cents or $1. The library is open today from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Call the library at 256-927-5838 for further information.

Cherokee County Chamber of Commerce has declared JANUARY “RESTAURANT MONTH” in Cherokee County. In observance, local restaurants are offering specials throughout the month. Call the Chamber at (256)927-8455 for information on participating restaurants and the specials they may be offering.

Visit the beautiful Rock Village, home of some of the best hiking and rock climbing throughout the world. Enjoy fresh air and beautiful scenery. Go to the intersection of U.S. Highway 411 and Highway 68 in Leesburg, turn right, turn left on Cherokee County 36, to the intersection of County Road 36 and County Road 70, turn left and follow the signs.

Visit the historic Cornwall Furnace on Cherokee County Road 92 in Cedar Bluff.

With the dismissal of Cherokee County schools at 11 a.m. Thursday morning due to snow in the weather forecast, Cherokee County Basketball Tournament officials have postponed Thursday’s scheduled games at the Gadsden State-Cherokee Arena. The tournament will now begin on Friday at 4 p.m. with the Gaylesville-Cherokee County B-team boys game, followed by the Cedar Bluff varsity girls taking on Gaylesville at 5:30 p.m. Gaylesville-Cherokee County and Spring Garden-Sand Rock varsity boy games will conclude action on Friday at 7 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. respectively. Saturday’s schedule will be two sessions. Session one begins at 9 a.m. with the Cherokee County varsity girls taking on Friday’s Cedar Bluff-Gaylesville girls winner. That game will be followed by the Cedar Bluff varsity boys against the winner of Friday’s Gaylesville-Cherokee County game at 10:30 a.m. The final game of Saturday’s first session will be Sand Rock varsity girls against Spring Garden at noon. After the completion of Saturday’s first session, the arena will be cleared and admission will be charged for the second session.

Session two begins at 4 p.m. Saturday with Sand Rock’s B-team girls taking on Cherokee County in the B-team girls championship. The B-team boys championship will follow at 5:30 p.m. The varsity girls title game is set for 7 p.m., followed by the varsity boys championship at 8:30 p.m.

Admission to the tournament is $5.

Sunday, Jan. 20

The Centre First Baptist Church contemporary worship service, “Impact” begins at 8:30 a.m.

The Edge, a contemporary worship service that welcomes each person as he or she is and challenges us all to grow together in our faith in Jesus Christ, meets at 8:45 a.m. at Centre First United Methodist Church.

The Church of Christ on Highway 9 North in Piedmont will host a clothing giveaway from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Items to be given away include men’s women’s children’s household items. Refershments will be serve. Bible tracts and information will be available. For more information, please call 256-453-5976.

Shady Grove Baptist Church on Cherokee County Road 822 atop Lookout Mountain wil host the gospel group Mountain Wind at 6 p.m.
