Local agents have arrested two people and questioned a third suspect in connection to an early Monday morning, Sept. 28 burglary and break-in at Yellow Creek Store/Fish Camp located on Alabama Highway 273.

Arrested, according to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, were Jeremy Lee Garrison, 26, of Sand Rock who was charged with burglary in the third degree and theft of proerty in the first degree and Nathan Christopher Jackson, 36, of Hokes Bluff, who was charged with receiving stolen property in the first degree.

According to Shaver, Yellow Creek Store/Fish Camp Owners Glenn and Ann Spears stated they had been the victim of a burglary and theft. Someone had removed the air vent from the rear of the business and entered the store and stole numerous items including cigarettes, cigars, candy, sodas, lighters along with numerous other items. The store video surveillance footage was recovered and it was determined at least two suspects were involved. Video also disclosed a vehicle used in the burglary.

The video photos were put on a local news web site and numerous tips and leads were called into law enforcement. Today (Wednesday 09-30-09) one of those tips paid off. A citizen happened to be at the Yellow Creek Store when a vehicle passed by fitting the description of the suspect vehicle. The citizen and store owner followed the vehicle and called Leesburg Police Chief Lanny Ransum as they followed the vehicle down Alabama 273 toward Leesburg, Shaver said.

Chief Ransum contacted Sheriff's Office Investigators Rochester and Hicks. Chief Ransum located the vehicle at the Dollar General Store in Leesburg and he, along with State Trooper Roberts pulled in and asked the two people a few questions. They learned one male subject was inside the Dollar General and Trooper Roberts went in and brought him outside. Chief Ransum became suspicious and advised all three of their rights and placed them in custody. Sheriff’s Office Investigators arrived and after interviewing the three suspects two of them were arrested. Numerous items taken from the store were recovered from the suspect vehicle and from a residence on County Road 600, Shaver said.

The third person, although detained for questioning, has not been charged with a crime as yet, Shaver said.

Additional charges could follow.

The Sheriff's Office and Leesburg P.D. wish to thank citizens for their help in solving this case. Anyone with information about a crime is urged to contact Law Enforcement, All call will remain confidential.
