WLIA Board members shared an update on this project during the January meeting of the board held at Pruett’s Restaurant in Centre.
Alabama Power is now in the process of its 50-year re-licensing process and WLIA Board Members have attended a number of Alabama Power meetings promote raising water levels which they feel would enhance fishing and the overall health of Weiss Lake.
WLIA Board member Bill O’Brien said the plan is to raise the level to 561 (up three feet from the current winter pool level of 558). The lake would remain at that level through March and until May when the level reaches full pool. The level would remain at full pool through September, which would give the lake another level at full pool. A gradual drawdown would begin Dec. 1.
Board Member Jerry Culberson, O’Brien said, was instrumental in getting WLIA involved in this relicensing process. WLIA Board Member David Moore, O’Brien and others began attending the Alabama Power meetings to give their input into this process.
While the plan is tentative at this time, WLIA members indicated they are pleased and encouraged by these latest developments
