Local authorities arrested a Sand Rock man in connection with a shooting off Alabama 273 in Leesburg Monday morning, Feb. 2.

Arrested, according to reports, was Randall Shane Barnett, 28. Cherokee County Sheriff’s Investigator Seth Rochester and District Attorney Investigator Danny Smith took Barnett into custody Wednesday afternoon, Feb. 3.

The victim, reports said, was identified as Bradley Ballenter, 24, who was found on the ground next to his pickup truck Monday morning after calling 911 stating he had been shot. He was transported by ambulance to Gadsden Regional Medical Center. He is now out of intensive care and expected to make a full recovery.

Leesburg Police Chief Lanny Ransum said the incident was the result of a domestic situation between Ballenger and Barnett.

Barnett remains in Cherokee County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.
