Cedar Bluff sweeps Jacksonville Christian Holiday Tournament championships

JACKSONVILLE – The Cedar Bluff boys and girls made it a clean sweep at the Jacksonville Christian Holiday Basketball Tournament on Tuesday. Both teams captured their respective championships.

The Tiger boys claimed a 43-40 win over Mt. Zion, Ga., and the girls defeated Mt., Zion, Ga., 48-44 in the tournament title games.

Tyric Scales led the Tigers (7-4) with 16 points and six rebounds. Marcus Reese added 10 points and seven boards. Kyle Crane finished with 10 points and Jim Nelson grabbed 10 boards.

In first round action on Monday, the Tiger boys defeated Ragland 70-58. Scales led the charge with 33 points. Reese added 17 points and Crane came away with nine points.

In girls action on Tuesday, Jessica Brannon led the Lady Tigers (4-8) with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Mechelle Adams added seven boards. Audrey Harguitt, Hannah Leach and Tanessa Fife all grabbed six rebounds.

Cedar Bluff opened the tournament on Monday by claiming a 58-30 win against Faith Christian. Brannon led all scorers with 21 points. Brannon was also 9 for 11 from the free throw line for the Lady Tigers (4-8).

Boys

Cherokee County 57, Sheffield 54 – In the Deshler Holiday Tournament in Tuscumbia on Tuesday, Cherokee County took third place following the win over Sheffield.

Coty Blanchard led the charge for the Warriors (8-5) with 17 points, including 10 points in the second half. Colin Perry came away with nine points and Keon Rucker tallied seven points (all in the fourth quarter). Brett Burgess finished with six points.

Cherokee County trailed for the majority of the game. Sheffield built a 18-9 lead at the end of the first quarter and held a 26-24 lead at the break. The Warriors trailed 42-40 at the end of the third quarter.

Sand Rock 50, Gaston 45 – In Gaston on Tuesday, Brandon Burt scored 19 points as Sand Rock defeated Gaston in the Gaston Holiday Tournament consolation game.

Justin Kyser added 10 points for the Wildcats (10-6), while Cody Beck scored nine.

Jared Bogle led the Bulldogs with 14 points.
