Leesburg man arrested in connection with tractor theft

Cherokee County Sheriff's Investigator Seth Rochester made an arrest today, Friday, Jan. 2, in the theft case of the Massey Ferguson tractor that was recovered on 12-23-2008.

Arrested, according to reports, was Calvin John Cole, 35, who has a 1535 County Road 17 Leesburg (Sand Rock Al.) address. He was charged with theft of property in the first degree.

The tractor, according to reports, was reported as being stolen from James Carver of Sand Rock sometime the night of Dec. 19, 2008. The tractor was recovered in a wooded area behind the Carver farm stuck in the mud.



Investigator Rochester along with other law enforcement officers have searched for the person suspected of the theft. That person was arrested on unrelated charges and was in the Cherokee County Detention Center, In. Rochester interviewed the subject who made a full confession of the theft, according to reports.



Cole remains in the Cherokee County Detention Center under a $20,000 bond for the theft charge and there is a hold on his release until he goes in front of a Judge on the failure to pay fines charges he faces, reports said.
