Abernathy fanned 13 batters, allowed just four hits and one run for the seventh-ranked Tigers (18-11, 7-0). He also had a two-run double at the plate.
All three of Cedar Bluff’s runs were scored in the sixth inning. Zack Taylor led off the inning by reaching on an error. Rihied Harris followed with a double to left field, setting the stage for Abernathy’s double. Austin McCullough brought home pinch runnerMarcus Reese on a single for the Tigers’ final run.
Both teams conclude their series on Thursday at Cedar Bluff with a doubleheader beginning at 4:30 p.m.

Sand Rock 10, Ohatchee 0
OHATCHEE – Logan Smith belted two hits, including a home run, and drove in two more to help Class 2A, No. 5 Sand Rock earn a 10-0 softball victory in five innings at Ohatchee.
Taylor Rogers allowed just two hits and struck out eight in the circle for the Lady Wildcats (17-3, 4-0 Area 13).
Kelsey Hayes had three hits, including a pair of doubles. Amber Henderson and Whitney Capezza both had a pair of hits. One of Henderson’s hits was a double.
Sand Rock travels to West End for another area game on Thursday at 5 p.m.
