The first order of business was to have the swearing in ceremony for new councilman Gene Farmer who will be finishing out the term of Bud Brock who retired recently. Dean Buttram, town lawyer was on hand to give the oath of office to Farmer. Several family members and friends were on hand for the ceremony. Then the council went into their regular meeting.
The minutes of the last meeting was read, and approved. Melonie Garrett, town clerk, went over the budget report, and it was approved. Gigi Lawson spoke to the council concerning the Junior Beta club at Sand Rock High School, and a Beta Club trip to the Beta convention that is going to be held in Nashville Tennessee.
The town council will discuss work projects for the group to help raise funds for the trip at the next meeting. Also the Junior Beta Club ask to use the town hall building for a fund raiser and that was approved.
The council renewed the contract with Scott Stimpson with Pro-Cut Lawn Care for the lawn and landscaping for the town. In the Road Department report, Scenic Drive repairs are complete.
There was no report from the Park Department. In the Building and Grounds report, there was discussion about the lights for the signs near the town hall, and this was tabled until the next meeting. The Fire Department received the grant money for their new fire truck that will be delivered soon.
In new business, the council renewed the insurance for the town.
In old business, the council discussed a bid on some glass repairs, but the discussion was tabled.
The council reported that the town web site will be up and running soon.
A motion was made to have the repairs done to the dugout at the girls softball field.
Sid Garrett was on hand to discuss with the council concerning the sewer line needs for the town.
