Sand Rock council looks at upgrades to town’s facilities

The Sand Rock Town Council met May 5 at the town hall. All council persons, the mayor, and town clerk were present for the meeting. Mayor Bill Glenn called the meeting to order, and welcomed all guest.

Bud Mackey opened the meeting with prayer.

Town clerk Melonie Garrett passed out copies of the last regular meeting, which the council read and approved.

Mayor Glenn welcomed new councilman Gene Farmer and the town departments gave their reports.

As for road department matters, the town voted to purchase and install a dead end road sign on White Oak Drive.

The building and grounds department discussed repairs on the walking track in the town park. The council tabled the matter to another date.

In old business, the Sand Rock High School Jr. Beta Club will do some work at the town hall parking lot, and will receive some funds from the town for their work.

The town council approved accepting a bid from Cherokee Glass to replace some doors on the town hall building. The council also looked at a bid from T.H. Electric to put power in to the marquee sign in front of the town hall building.

In new business the council discussed looking into purchasing a generator for the town hall. Information will be gathered on the size needed for the building. The council tabled the matter for further consideration at a later meeting.
