The Family Care Center at 1014 West Main St. includes a Thrift Store open to the public Tuesday through Friday, 10 a.m. until 4 p.m. The Family Care Center helps others by giving clothing, food and possibly hope to families in their time of need. The Center asks for your help by supporting its thrift stores. There are currently two locations, the one in Centre and another at 5511 Main St. in Hokes Bluff. The Center is currently helping more than 100 families per week and thanks the community for its continued support. Director is Cindy McGinnis.

Visit Cherokee Rock Village and enjoy beautiful views, rock climbers from around the world and even hanggliding. To get to Rock Village, travel Highway 411 to the four-way stop in Leesburg, turn right, turn left on Cherokee County Road 36, travel to the intersection of County Road 36 and 70 and follow the signs.

Gadsden State Community College will allow students to obtain ID cards for 2011-2012 through Sept. 16 at several campuses across its system including the Gadsden State Community College-Cherokee campus in Centre in the library Monday through Thursday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 108 Inzer Hall on the Wallace Drive Campus. Cherokee County Celebrate Recovery offers support groups for chemical dependency, co-dependency, grief, divorce and loved ones of chemical dependency, and much more. Child care available. Call 393-2861 for more information.

Growing up Wild at the Little River Canyon Center will be held from 11 a.m. to noon at the Little River Canyon Center on Highway 35 in Fort Payne. Join the Canyon Center staff and volunteers for fun nature and art programs for preschool children. This program is based on the Alabama Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Project Wild: Growin’ Up Wild curriculum. The Friday, Aug. 26 program is Ants on Parade.
