Cedar Bluff woman faces arson charge

A Cedar Bluff woman is currently being held on an arson charge following a reported structure fire in the Farill Community of Cherokee County Saturday, Nov. 12.

Arrested, according to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, was Kathy Osborn, 42, who was charged with arson in the second degree.

According to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, Cedar Bluff, Centre and Gaylesville Fire Departments, around 5:05 p.m., responded to a reported structure fire at 12215 Alabama Highway 9 north in the Farill Community. Fire fighters arrived on the scene and quickly brought the fire under control. While attempting to determine the cause and origin of the fire, Cedar Bluff Fire Chief Shane Woodham discovered some suspicious burn patterns on the floor inside the residence.

Chief Investigator Bo Jolly was contacted and responded to assist in the investigation.

Jolly and Woodham examined the residence and collected evidence. Cherokee County Fire/Arson Investigator Shawn Rogers continued the investigation and developed leads with the assistance of Deputy Ray Cumby with the State Fire Marshal’s Office. After speaking with several witnesses and examining all of the evidence, Investigator Rogers and Deputy Cumby arrested Osborn. She is currently being held in the Cherokee County Detention Center awaiting a bond hearing.

Shaver extends thanks to the fire departments for their quick response and also the State Fire Marshal’s Office for their assistance in the investigation.
