LAFAYETTE, Ga. – Larry Guffey of Centre joined one of golfing’s elite groups when he aced the 14th hole at Lafayette, Ga.’s city operated golf course on Monday.

Guffey was participating in the monthly two-person scramble with partner Gary Burchette of Gadsden when he teed up his Srixon Soft Feel for the 139-yard shot. With two balls already resting on the green within 16 feet of the pin by fellow competitors Johnny Bentley and Steve Baker, Guffey lifted a six iron into the wind. The Srixon landed true on the green and rolled straight forward before gently settling into the cup and snuggling against the flagstick. Baker was viewing the ball on his range finder as it tracked toward the hole. Once Baker saw the ball disappeared from sight he realized it sank to the bottom of the cup. At that point, a celebration on the tee box from the jubilant group ensued.

For Guffey, President of the Cherokee County Country Club in Centre, it was his first hole-in-one.
