The ninth-ranked Tigers (12-4, 3-0) batted around in the inning. Dalton Cosby had a single and two RBIs. Lot Maxwell and Rihied Harris both had RBI-singles in the inning.
That was enough run support for Cedar Bluff starter Curtis Abernathy, who picked up the win on the mound. He gave up three runs on three hits with a walk, a hit batsman and eight strikeouts.
Harris and Austin McCullough both had a pair of hits for the Tigers. McCullough also drove in two runs. Kaleb Clark added a hit.
Spring Garden (13-7, 4-1) scored all three of its runs in the top of the second off Abernathy.
Will Ivey, Will Westbrook, Jake Grogan and Andrew McLarty all had hits for the Panthers. Westbrook, Benefield and Brooks scored the Panther runs. Brooks and McLarty both had an RBI.
Westbrook took the loss for the Panthers after working just 1 1/3 innings. Brooks and Ivey came in for relief. Brooks worked 1 2/3 innings, while Ivey tossed three innings.
The two teams conclude their series Wednesday afternoon with a doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. in Spring Garden.
