Piedmont woman dies as a result of accident

A Piedmont woman was killed in a two-vehicle accident on Highway 411 in Cherokee County Wednesday evening, April 18. The accident occurred around 9:30 p.m. approximately 15 miles north of Centre.

Drivers involved in the accident, according to the state trooper report, were Melvin Nelson, 50, of Collinsville, who was driving a 2005 Mack Truck and Susan Fann Mason, 57, who was driving a 1994 Ford Tempo.

Mason was transported to Cherokee Medical Center where she later died. Nelson was not injured, the report said.

The accident remains under investigation by state troopers.
