Drowning investigation continues

The investigation continues into a possible drowning after a man apparently jumped into the water on Weiss Lake over the weekend and never surfaced.

Preliminary reports indicated that three individuals jumped from a pontoon boat for a swim around 5:45 p.m. Saturday afternoon in the Leesburg area. Two of the individuals re-surfaced while the other did not.

Continuing in the search for the body of the possible drowning victim are the Cherokee County Rescue Squad, Alabama Marine Police, Leesburg Police and the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office – along with assistance from the Piedmont Rescue Squad, according to Cherokee County Rescue Squad Captain Danny Smith.
