Local emergency crews continued their search Monday morning for a man who reportedly drowned in Weiss Lake late Sunday afternoon, June 24. The incident was reported around 5:19 p.m.

According to Alabama Marine Police, the man and his family were on a Pontoon boat when they stopped for fuel near Weiss Mart Marina and while the man and his father were getting fuel, some of his family members jumped into the water to cool off. He thought his children were getting too far away from the boat and decided to go in after them. He then began to struggle and call for assistance.

Taking part in the search are the Cherokee County Rescue Sqad, Cedar Bluff Police Department, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office and Cherokee County EMS Ambulance Service.
