The victim, according to reports, was identified as Matthew Huether, 27, of Rome, Ga., who was located early this morning, Tuesday, June 26.
On Sunday evening, June 24, Huether and several family members had been on a pontoon boat late Sunday afternoon, when he went into the water, to check on his young children, who had apparently swam farther away from the boat than he felt comfortable with, said Alabama Marine Police Officer Rick Sides.
The 9-1-1 Call went out around 5 p.m. Sunday. Witness reports indicated that Huether was in distress by the time he reached his children and went under a second time before disappearing into the water. Emergency personnel began the search just moments after arriving on the scene.
This latest incident is the fourth water-related death on Weiss this year. Others included three from drowning and one which was caused by a jet ski accident in the spring.
The incident remains under investigation. Officer Sides extended thanks to all those who responded and assisted in the search for Huether.
