MR. DAVID LEWIS ABERNATHY

Mr. David Abernathy 68, of Centre, passed away Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at his home. Mr. Abernathy was born in Cherokee County and graduated from Spring Garden High School. Shortly after graduation, he joined the Air Force and served his country in several countries overseas, including Turkey, Thailand, Phillipines, and Vietnam. After a medical discharge from the service, he followed his career to Macon, Georgia where he lived for 36 years and worked for the postal service for 34 years. Upon his retirement, he and Glenda moved back to Cherokee County to be near family.

Funeral services for Mr. Abernathy, will be Friday, June 29, th at 3 pm at Perry Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Ricky Pollard and Rev. Eugene Burgess officiating. Burial will follow at Friendship Cemetery with military rites. The family will receive friends from 1 to 3 pm Friday. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Pine Grove Baptist Church Building Fund P.O. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Glenda Matthews Abernathy, son, Craig (Kiaw) Abernathy of Belgrade, Serbia, and two precious grandchildren; sisters Charlotte (Horace) Morgan, Cave Spring, Joan Abernathy, Piedmont, and several nieces and nephews.

Mr. Abernathy was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Floy Abernathy, and sister, Hazel Mullinax.
