The Leesburg Town Council met recently in the town hall. Mayor Mackey called the meeting to order, and led the pledge of allegiance to the American flag. Council person Dianne Tillery led all in prayer to start the meeting.

The minutes of the last meeting were read and approved. Town clerk Jennifer Mackey gave out copies of the previous month’s expenditures, and these expenditures were approved.

In old business, Leesburg Day festivities and entertainment was discussed. Plans for a Leesburg Got Talent program during Leesburg Day and opportunity for local people to perform for prize money will be looked into.

In new business, Vickie Robinson from the Cherokee County Herald was on hand to discuss with the council about the upcoming Past Times article and the Leesburg ads and information for the special edition.

Ellery Durgin with HCE Media LLC came to the council about securing a cable TV franchise agreement with the town. The town lawyer will draw up the franchise agreement to be discussed at the next meeting.

Qualifying for town elections will go from July 3 until July 17, with qualifying fee set at $50.

The Leesburg Volunteer Fire Department will wash the gravel off the helicopter landing pad, and the council is going to look in to price estimates for sealing the pad.

The Red Cross mobile blood unit will set up in the parking lot for a local blood drive.

With no other business the meeting was adjourned.
