CENTRE – School’s Out-Camp of Organized Learning, better known as SO-COOL, is wrapping up another summer of fun at the National Guard Armory in Centre.

The camp is a free program for children ages 8-13 sponsored by the Rotary Club of Centre and the Cherokee County Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Council. It is designed to help children remember what they learned in school through fun games, make memories, and interact with other Cherokee County youth from all parts of the area.

Nancy Steed organized the program and has assistance from several former Warrior football players such as Brett Burgess and Jayde Boatfield.

For Burgess, it’s a chance for him to continue being active with the kids in the community.

“It’s a really good program for kids, and it’s a good thing the Rotary Club and the Cherokee County Alcoholism and Substance Abuse Council does,” Burgess said. “Nancy does a great job with the program. She loves what she does and she loves these kids.”

Helpers share things they like with the kids. They teach them things they may not have known. Activities the children can participate in include swimming three times a week at the Centre City Pool, skating, talent shows, art competitions, dance competitions, Vacation Bible School, board games, music, first-aid training, art classes, football, baseball, kickball, volleyball, tennis, watching films, and more, making memories that will last a lifetime.
