IDER – Sand Rock girls basketball coach Lisa Bates said she couldn’t have been prouder of her team Thursday night.

Even though the Lady Wildcats’ season came to a close at No. 2 Ider in the Class 2A Northeast Sub-Regionals 56-33, Bates said her team held its own and went down swinging against the Lady Hornets.

Sand Rock (14-17) trailed by only a 15-10 margin after the first quarter and looked to get even closer in the second before the Lady Hornets began to pull away. Ider led 27-17 at the end of the first half, and the Lady Wildcats could get no closer in the third, trailing 38-23.

“They represented Sand Rock High School really well tonight,” Bates said of her team. “I’m proud of their effort. We stayed right with them for a long time, but then they started getting hot from the outside.”

Tessa Pendergrass led Sand Rock with 10 points. Tiffany Prince added six points and 16 rebounds. Lauren Bell finished with six points and Amber Henderson had five points.

Ider (24-5) had four players in double figures, led by Hillary Phillips’ 12 points. Kayla Beatty netted 11 points. Jade Hawkins and Kesha Lipham both had 10 points.

Ider advances to face Ranburne on Monday in the Class 2A Northeast Regionals at Jacksonville State University.
