GUNTERSVILLE –Cherokee County coach Shane Reid wishes he could have the third quarter of the Warriors’ Northeast Sub-Regional basketball game at Guntersville back.

That quarter proved to be costly to the Warriors, as they lost 61-55 to end their season at 16-13.

Guntersville (16-13) advances to meet Anniston on Thursday at 1:30 p.m. at Jacksonville State University’s Pete Mathews Coliseum.

After Cherokee County led 29-27 at the half, Guntersville went on a 16-3 run in the third quarter to break the game open at 43-32 heading into the fourth.

“In the third quarter, our guys all started to do too much,” Reid said. “The more they did that, the more Guntersville took their run on us.

"We didn’t match up with them size-wise, and we didn’t get many second-chance opportunities.”

Coty Blanchard led the Warriors with a game-high 27 points. Tyler Stubbs finished with 10 points. D.J. Fife and Colin Perry both had five points.

Tucker Bridges netted 21 points to lead the Wildcats. Matt Bass added 13 points.

Despite the loss, Reid said his team battled through adversity all season rather well.

“The kids we have love to compete,” he said. “We got a late start to the season, but the kids settled in. Once you get to postseason, though, it’s one and done. The mistakes you’ve made all season come back to haunt you.”
