Local municipalities have released the final lists of those seeking office in the Aug. 28 election.

The town of Cedar Bluff’s candidates are as follows:

-for mayor, Ethel Sprouse (incumbent), Sam Ellis, Margaret Wallace, Martha Baker and Jack Bond.

-District I Town Council-Billie Burkhalter, Evan Smith (incumbent), and Jimmy Wallace.

-District 2 Town Council-Tammy Crane

-District 3 Town Council-Nathan Thacker and Jerry Sprayberry

-District 4 Town Council-Norman Burton (incumbent) and Paul McWhorter III.

District 5 Town Council-Leatha Harp (incumbent)

In the Centre race, Incumbent Tony Wilkie will face Challenger Jay Howell for the mayor’s position.

Incumbents running for re-election to the Centre City Council include Glenn Chandler, Frankie Kelly, Harry Moon, Phillip Roberts and Bess Yarbrough.

Incumbent Joe Hall has decided not to seek another term and Incumbent Sid Garrett is running for Cherokee County Probate Judge.

Newcomers running for Centre City Council include Shelia Barrett, Jean Gossett, Marc Johnson, Ronnie Strawbridge, Cricket Swafford, Derek Wheeler and Agnes Wright.

In the Gaylesville race, Incumbent Elizabeth Stafford is seeking re-election as mayor.

Gaylesville Town Council candidates include:

-Jean Watwood for Place One.

-Gay Simpson for Place Two.

-April Given for Place Three.

-Tommy Storey for Place Four.

-Tina Rowland for Place Five.

In Leesburg, Incumbent Mayor Edward Mackey will face Challengers Dianne Tillery and Tony Chandler.

Leesburg Town Council Candidates for 2012 include:

-Place One: Brad Roberts, Tim Ransum and Frankie Brewster.

-Place Two: Joe Sonaty and Leonard Joseph.

-Place Three: Brandy Pierce and Jerry Johns.

-Place Four: Wayne Byram

-Place Five: William (Bill) Jones and Brandon Betterton.

The town of Sand Rock has also furnished the names of those candidates seeking municipal offices in 2012. They are as follows:

-for Mayor, James R. Mackey

-Town Council Place 1-Julia Smith

-Town Council Place 2-Greg Oliver

-Town Council Place 3-Gene Farmer

-Town Council Place 4-George Mackey

-Town Council Place 5-Steve McMeekin.
