REV. ARTHUR LAWRENCE AGAN

Rev. Arthur Lawrence Agan, 89, of Lindale, passed away Wednesday, morning, August 1, 2012, at his residence. Rev. Agan was born in Early, Georgia. Rev. Agan was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Pacific with the U. S. Marine Corps at Guadalcanal. Prior to his ministry, Rev. Agan was a salesman and owned and operated Agan Mercantile. Having served as a minister for 57 years at a number of churches, Rev. Agan organized The Word and The Way Baptist Church in 1973, and served as Pastor there for 39 years.

Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon, August 3, 2012, at 2:00 pm at John House’s Cave Spring Chapel Funeral Home with Dr. John Barnett and Mr. John Collette officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of the Pleasant Hope Cemetery with the Honor Guard of the Shanklin-Attaway Post 5 of the American Legion providing military honors. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening, August 2, 2012, from 6:00 until 8:00 pm. John House’s Cave Spring Chapel Funeral Home directing.

Survivors include his wife, Hazel Fuller Agan, daughters, Mrs. Kathy Sanders (James), Mrs. Kay Barnett, (Dr. John Barnett), all of Lindale, sister, Mrs. Francis Clark, Cartersville, brother, Glenn Agan and his (Stacey) Cave Spring, five grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, Aa number of nieces and nephews. and a special caregiver, Mrs. Erica Haywood also survive.

Mr. Agan was preceded in death by by his wife Marilyn Gresham Patterson Agan, sisters, Mrs. Rebecca Hutchins, Mrs. Patty Fritz, brothers, Leonard Agan, Donald Agan, J. W. Agan, Rev. James F. Agan, special brother-in-law, Ralph (Pat) Holcomb, his step mother, Mrs. Ann Agan.

Mr. Agan was the son of the late Charles Arthur Agan and the late Lily Frances Early Agan.
