Actions of alert neighbors lead to arrests

The actions of an alert neighbor led to the arrest of two individuals for burglary, theft of services, and drug related charges recently.

Arrested, according to Cherokee County Sheriff Jeff Shaver, were Jeremy R. McCord, 31, and Ashley A. Walsh, 26. McCord was charged with burglary, theft of property, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. Walsh was charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia and has pending warrants for theft of property from Rainbow City, Ala.

According to Shaver, a citizen observed strangers at his neighbors’ residence on Cherokee County Road 947 in the Round Mountain community and notified authorities. Cherokee County deputies and Leesburg Police responded to the scene and stopped a vehicle leaving the property. The suspects were detained for questioning and stated they were staying with relatives at a residence in the area.

Investigators searched that residence and recovered property reported stolen including several firearms and electronic equipment. They also discovered the suspect had been unlawfully obtaining utility services, Shaver said.
