MRS. THERESE G. LIVINGSTON

Mrs. Therese G. Livingston, 89, of Cedar Bluff passed away August 11, 2012. She was born in Geraldine, raised her family in Oneonta, before retiring to Cedar Bluff, which became her home. Her education started at the Geraldine schools, then Snead Jr. College and next Alabama Polytechnic Institute with a Bachelor of Science in Home Economics. She later attended the University of Montevallo, completing a Masters Degree in Science. In Therese’s professional career she worked as a chemist for DuPont in Childersburg, during World War II, then for the Farm Home Administration as a demonstration agent, and later she taught at Sand Rock High School and Appalachian High School. Next she taught math and science at Oneonta schools. In 1968 she was among one of the first women employed as an insurance agent. Her volunteer work included serving as President of the PTA in Oneonta. She was a member of the Garden Club in Oneonta and Cedar Bluff, the Cedar Bluff Wednesday/Monthly Bridge Group and part of The Women’s Club of Weiss Lake. She was an active member of the Oneonta and Cedar Bluff Baptist churches, teaching Sunday school in Oneonta and Cedar Bluff. Therese has also served as Vice President of AARP in Cherokee County.

She is survived by her husband of 66 years, Blake Livingston; her children: Gunter and Anne Livingston, LaHayne Livingston and LuAnn and Ron Smith: seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and siblings, Romola and Tom Fricks.

Mrs. Livingston was preceded in death by her parents; Dee and Mattie Gunter, great grandchild, Aubrey Livingston and siblings - Elowayne and Dick Guyton, Larue and J.W. Formby.

Visitation will be at The Cedar Bluff First Baptist Church on Tuesday, August 14th, 2012 at 9:30 with funeral services at 10:00. Burial will be at the Harton/Livingston Family cemetery followed by a celebration of life at 12:15 at The Cedar Bluff First Baptist Church.
