The No. 10 Panthers scored the first seven times they had the ball and crushed the Thunder 48-21 in Class 1A, Region 7 action.
Collinsville (2-0, 2-0) scored on all five of its first-half possessions while building a 35-0 lead. Senior quarterback C.J. Jones completed 7 of 8 passes for 116 yards and a 41-yard touchdown to senior receiver Edgar Padilla to open the game’s scoring with 9:48 to go in the first quarter.
Nick Hoffman scored on a 5-yard run, and Daniel Bradford raced 29 yards for a score to close out the first-quarter scoring.
The barrage continued into the second period, with Kevin McElrath scoring from 2 yards out, and Bradford adding a 20-yard touchdown.
“You can get a lot out of a game like this one. I’m happy that we came out relatively injury free,” Collinsville coach Alan Beckett said. “I’m happy the offensive line had another pretty good night. We handled the fronts that they used against us. I’m happy a lot of our skill people got touches.”
Justin Little ran a punt back 42 yards to start the third-quarter scoring. Vince McKinney’s 7-yard run pushed the margin to 48-0.
Jacksonville Christian (1-1, 1-1) scored three touchdowns in the final quarter against Collinsville reserves. Sophomore quarterback Daylon Brackett had two of those scores – a 62-yard run and a 10-yard run. Dakota Crook added scored the Thunder’s final touchdown on a 3-yard run with just six seconds remaining.
Collinsville will play at Woodville next Friday, while Jacksonville Christian will travel to Donoho.
