All Cherokee County teams will be in action this week when both the county softball and baseball tournaments begin at Spring Garden High School on Thursday, and the teams to beat are both Warrior squads.
The Cherokee County softball team is seeking its third straight county title. The Lady Warriors defeated Spring Garden in last year’s championship game at Gaylesville.
Cherokee County opens the 2009 tournament against Gaylesville on Thursday at 4 p.m. The winner of that game will take on Sand Rock on Friday at 4 p.m.
Spring Garden and Cedar Bluff match up in the other opening-round game on Thursday at 5:30 p.m.
The losers of Cherokee County-Gaylesville and Spring Garden-Cedar Bluff will face off Thursday at 7 p.m. in the loser’s bracket.
Tournament play will continue on Friday at 5:30 p.m., with the 2009 county championship slated for Saturday at 11:30 a.m. If a deciding game is necessary, it will be played at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
The county baseball tournament also gets underway on Thursday at Spring Garden High School. The Warriors are seeking their fourth county crown under head coach Jim Garmany. Cherokee County defeated Gaylesville in last year’s title game at Gaylesville. The Warriors open the 2009 tournament against Cedar Bluff on Thursday at 6:30 p.m.
Spring Garden and Sand Rock gets things started on Thursday at 4:30 p.m. The winner of that game takes on Gaylesville on Saturday at 2 p.m.
The 2009 county championship game is slated for 4 p.m. at Spring Garden.
