Gaylesville falls to 0-3 with 34-11 loss at Class 1A, No. 4 Ragland

RAGLAND – The fourth-ranked Ragland Purple Devils had little trouble beating Gaylesville Friday 34-11.

Ragland scored the first time it had the ball and was up 14-0 after the first quarter. The Purple Devils (3-0) increased their lead to 20-3 at intermission.

Ragland wasted little time in getting on the scoreboard, as it drove 60 yards on its first possession. The key play on the drive was a 42-yard run by Devane Brewster that put the ball at the Gaylesville 2-yard line.

After a penalty, Brewster scored with 9:24 remaining in the opening quarter. Quarterback KiJana Lindsay scored the two-point conversion to make it 8-0.

Following a Trojan punt, Ragland found the end zone again on its second possession as Lindsay scored on a 17-yard keeper with 3:32 remaining in the first quarter. The two-point conversion was no good, keeping the score at 14-0 headed into the second quarter.

Gaylesville (0-3) finally got on the scoreboard with 8:41 remaining in the second stanza as Logan Hurley was good on a 23-yard field goal to make it 14-3.

Ragland was forced to punt the next time it had the ball. Gaylesville drove down and attempted another field goal, but this one fell short.

On the last play of the first half, Lindsay threw a 17-yard touchdown pass to Jacob Brewster. The two-point conversion was no good, and the halftime score was 20-3.

The only score of the third quarter came with just 55 seconds remaining when Jimmy Brock got loose and scampered 75 yards for a touchdown. Christian Morrow added the 2-point conversion to make the score 28-3 heading into the final quarter.

With 4:42 remaining in the game, Morrow scored a touchdown on a 5-yard run. The two-point conversion was no good, but the Purple Devils were in command at 34-3.

Gaylesville finally scored a touchdown with 2:11 left in the game on a 5-yard run by John David Jennings. The two-point conversion was good to make the final score 34-11.

Gaylesville travels to Valley Head on Friday.
