Sand Rock slips a notch in latest volleyball rankings

The Sand Rock Lady Wildcats (18-3) dropped a spot to No. 6 in the latest Class 2A Birmingham News volleyball rankings, released on Thursday.

The Lady Wildcats play in the Geraldine Tournament on Saturday.

One other area team remains ranked in the poll, Class 1A Collinsville. The Lady Panthers (13-5) held steady at No. 5 in this week’s rankings. They travel to Area 13 rival Gaylesville on Thursday beginning at 4 p.m.

Three other area teams received nominations for this week’s poll: the Spring Garden Lady Panthers (13-12), the Cedar Bluff Lady Tigers (10-10) and the Piedmont Lady Bulldogs (15-7).

Spring Garden travels to Gadsden for a tri-match with Albertville on Thursday beginning at 5 p.m. Cedar Bluff hosts Asbury and Piedmont on Thursday beginning at 5 p.m.
