Becky Meadows began instructing a quilting class on March 1, 2012 to help others along with herself with coping during the time of grief.

Meadows teaches this class every Thursday from 10 a.m. to noon at the Cherokee Public Library. This class allows women to come together for a time of fun, fellowship, laughter and a time to create magnificent pieces for those they love.

When the class first started all the ladies were asked to bring two 6 1/2 inch strips in a light, dark, or bright color. They then exchanged strips to begin the quilting process.

Meadows started out teaching the simplest of methods such as the manpatch, pinwheel, and the log cabin.

The ladies then take what they have learned home with them and quilt some during the week and bring their creations back the next week with them. As they learn new techniques, step by step, these simple pieces of material turn into beautiful creations of joy expressed in their on handiwork. All of the quilts are hand pieced except for the bindings which have to be sewn on a sewing machine.

A couple of the most well known pieces of quilting are the double wedding ring and the dutch doll.

These classes are open to the public. So if you have an interest in learning to quilt, need a listening ear, or just want to go by and see all the beautiful creations and talk with the ladies they would love you to come by the library and look around. As with needles, the quilts are taken and mended together..... so can be the fragments of a broken heart one piece at a time.
