Volleyball Roundup: Sand Rock tunes up for county tournament with win at Pleasant Valley

PLEASANT VALLEY – Amber Ashley tallied 11 kills and Madison Smith added 10 kills and nine digs to lift Class 2A, No. 6 Sand Rock past Pleasant Valley in volleyball action Tuesday. The scores were 25-17, 25-18, 25-12.

Hannah Oliver had 10 digs for the Lady Wildcats (23-4). Kelsey Hayes contributed nine digs and four aces. Ashley Norris came away with 23 assists. Courtney Rowe finished with six aces.

Sand Rock will look to defend its Cherokee County Tournament championship on Saturday. The Lady Wildcats play the Cherokee County-Gaylesville winner. Action in the double-elimination tournament begins at 9 a.m. in Gaylesville.

Gaylesville sweeps Chattooga, Murray County

The Gaylesville Lady Trojans swept a pair of volleyball matches Tuesday. They defeated Chattooga, Ga. 25-11, 26-24 and Murray County 25-7, 25-11.

In the win over Chattooga, Ga., Taylor Tomlin led the charge with 10 kills and nine digs. Alex Montgomery contributed 10 kills, five digs and four aces. Hannah Van Pelt had 22 assists, nine digs and two aces.

Ashley Parris had three digs and an ace. Sydney Hammett came away with two kills, to digs and an ace. Angie Calvert managed three aces. Lauren Hammett and Kaitlin Van Pelt both had two digs. Brittany Partridge finished with a dig.

Against Murray County, Tomlin tallied nine kills, two digs and two aces. Montgomery added six kills, two aces and a dig. Hannah Van Pelt posted 18 assists, four aces, three digs and a kill.

Sydney and Lauren Hammett both had three digs and a kill. Sydney Hammett also had an ace. Van Pelt came away with a kill, a dig and an ace. Calvert had two digs and Partridge finished with a dig.

Gaylesville plays at Westbrook Christian on Thursday.
